Get the work done at good tire shop and you should not have any problems. I had a nail right at the line where the tread stops and the sidewall starts, a bad place I had heard. I talked to the local Tire Rack installer and they said that a patch done right will hold just about anywhere.
It has been 9 mos, no problems.
