Dave, what actually happens is the inside edge of the tire hits the wheel liner, which causes the bumper ends (where it attaches to the chassis) to flex inwards toward the wheel well, thus touching the outside part of the tire and doing damage.
I've managed to rub big holes through my wheel liners, and now I have no problems w/ rubbing, so the bumper doens't flex inwards now either.
I thought the revised liners were only for the rear wells. I don't have a problem back there, its the damn front ones like you said. Was the revised liner for the fronts as well? I'm rubbing a hole through my liner on both pass and driver sides. The inner section of the liner has big rub marks...and I'm on 205/55-16! I want 225's but theres just no way with the rubbing I already have.

David, are those 17's? They look like E1 style but bigger. I guess you got some of those 17" E1s a while back?

It looks like that 235 fits the wheel very well.
