A tire which is more narrow is better in the snow. Ask any tire expert. The wider the tire, the more resistance and the more snow a tire has to "plow" through. My Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice snow tires size 205/55-16 are WAY narrower than regular 205/55-16's.

SVT E0 and E1 rims are 16X6.5", according to SVT.

So if the wheel width is 7" like you say it is, it should fit with no problem, right?

One more thing...I DO know my physics and know that the wider the tire, the worse it is in snow...but is 225 too wide?? I noticed today at school that the Grand Am GTs come with 225/50/16s on them, and I see a lot of those here in Michigan, so they can't be too bad on those anyway...opinions please!

Did you measure inside to inside or outside to outside? Ford still says 406x165mm (16x6.5") in my E0 and E1 brochures, in my handbook, and on the SVT site.

It would be neat if you were right.

I'm sure they wouldn't be that bad if you had all-season's or snow tires...you'll be able to get around in the snow ok, but I wouldn't expect excellent traction, say, up a hill in just light or moderate snow. Alot if places, like Tirerack, recommend a "winter package" especially for wider tire equipped cars which see frequent winter duty. The only way you'll know for sure is to try it out and see what kind of traction you have, although it's getting a little too late for snow as the month moves on. HTH.

E1 Rims have a lip. Tire balancing machines base the width on the placing a tool just inside that lip on either side of the rim. E1's measure 7" and that is how all tire balancing machines work so I would imagine that how tire compies would to! The math for the balancing would be off otherwise!

225 will fit just fine!

I promise!

This is the size that originally came on the SVT. They don't look overly small. I think I will be going with the 225/50/16 in either the 5000s again or the KDWS both are a little more sport oriented and still all season. The A2s are a good deal and excellent tire.
Are your A2s the 225/50/16 size on the Mystique or a different size?

Ok, how about BFGoodrich Comp T/A VR4s in 215/50/16 size?

They're more expensive than the SP Sport A2s, but are the right size. Anyone have em? How do they perform? In the snow?
