It is time for new tires on my 2000 SE Sport. It came with 205/60/15 Firestone Firehawk GTAs. I wasn't the original owner, but the car has 22k and needs new rubber. I did some looking and couldn't find any solid information on 15" tires. Right now I'm looking at the Dunlop SP Sport 5000, BFG Comp T/A, Bridgestone Potenza 950, and the Firestone Firehawk SH30. Any opinions out their on which is the best? I'm looking for a solid year round tire with good performance, and I'm trying not to spend too much.

I ended up getting the Potenza RE950, about 6 months ago. I like them, they are suppose to be really good all-season tires. Haven't tried them on snow yet but on dry and wet roads they are great, especially compared to the stock firehawks. And this much I can also tell you they are very stable up to 90mph.

I'd go with the Dunlop or Bridgestone.

I too have the 950's. I had a small bout with winter weather a few weeks ago (bought them over the summer) and they were very good in the slushy/snow mix. Only slipped once, but it was more ice than snow, and I knew I was going to slip. They were also very predictable in the winter weather. I highly recommend them as a good all season tire.

What did you and the previous owner DO to that poor car? Mine has 20k on the same tires and they look almost like new.

My OE Firehawks also wore out in about 20, but partly because the front end was out of alignment, and I don't think I rotated as religiously as I do now. (Wisdom is gained from experience, not lecture.)

When I purchased the car from the dealership the front tires were severly worn down. As soon as I got the car home I rotated them, and they have been in back ever since. What I have in the front right now has what I consider normal wear. I am assuming that the previous owner never rotated the tires. Right now I am leaning towards the Potenzas, thanks for the help.

I put Goodyear Eagle HPs (P205-60HR-15) on my 96 2.5L SE. They handle very well dry as well as in the rain and are wearing well too. I'll get another set once these are done. Should be able to find them for about $75 or less each, minus M & B. Saw them mail order as low as $62 recently.

Just got the Dunlop SP Sport A2 for the wifes Mystique. They are much quieter than the D 60s that were on before. A softer and better ride than the D 60s. She drove it in the snow the other day and she said they were good. I haven't tried them yet myself. I have the SP 5000s on my SVT. I got the car with the tires well worn and they are almost worn to the wear bars now. They don't perform well in the rain anymore but I think that is do to that the are worn out. They did last a 40000 miles.

i have the sh30's. i think they are a great tire. decent wear and the grip very good. the only thing is that they are a little loud of a tire. other then that no complaints.
