what's the max size(footprint) one can fit on the stock SVT rims? Also another question-I don't want rubbing problems, but would consider new, wider rims....width being the issue, and keeping the same profile so as not to recalibrate/replace wheels on the speedo. Any suggestions? Stock 98 SVT front tires are a total joke, 1st gear is useless on the road.

I would say 225/50/16

I wonder about fitting 225's on the stock rims.....I doubt it.

I've had 225/50R16 tires on my 98 SVT for 80,000 miles with absolutely no rubbing issues. The fit is close but adequate. This is a topic that has had a lot of discussion in the past so there is a wealth of information available in SEARCH.

Some 99 SVT's had rubbing issues with the stock 215/50R16 tires and Ford published a TSB with part numbers for a revised rear wheel well liners with more room. Most have not had a problem though.

I guess with some modification to the rear quarter panel, you can fit 235's on. I have 225's and the rear rubs a little bit, and they're VERY close to the strut already. Trust me though, once you've gone to 225's, you won't want anything smaller. FYI, my Borbet Type B requires minimum 215's so 225 is my prefer size.
