Hi everyone,

I just bought an E0 with the stock rims and 205-55R16 tires. The tires on the car are in good shape, but they are all season (Dayton HR, M + S, H-rated) and I really want to maximize performance by getting dedicated summer & winter tires.

While I was researching the SVTs, I noticed that while the rims remained the same size over the years (16x6.5, although I know the styling changed) the tire size changed to 215-50R16. Does this mean that I can replace my 205-55R16s with the wider tire with out any problems? Will my speedo be impacted?

Regards,
BB

Ick.. just looked at Tirerack.com and they have practically nothing in the 215-50R16 size (Firehawks?? Please!). What other sizes will fit on stock rims? Or do I have to reconcile myself to a rim upgrade?

205/55
225/50
215/50
all work

The size doesn't matter as much as the tire. For example, a Yok AVS-i 205/55 is a lot sickier than any Goodyear 225/50.

I've run three different Z-rated tires in 205/55R16 on the E0 stock rims. OEM Goodyear Eagle GS-C (can't find in my size anymore), Firestone Firehawk SZ50 (nice tire but they get stiff on cold mornings), and Bridgestone Potenza RE730 (only had for 3000 mi before engine went, but happy with performance and price so far).

Get those crappy H-rated's off there. Yuck. The previous owner should be flogged. Obviously didn't know what they had in the SVT or were too cheap to care.

Speedo usually isn't significantly impacted unless you move up more than or down more than two sizes.

Firehawk SZ50 225/50/ZR16 is the best $73 can buy you! Firehawk is not Wilderness, and should not be treated as the same thing. Read tirerack's review and you'll find Bridgestone/Firestone has the best performance tires on all price level.

Firehawk may not be Wilderness but still does not change the fact that it is a sh!t tire more suitable for mounting on Toyota ECHO or Ford Aspire than SVT.

Have you run Firehawk SZ50 or Bridgestone Potenza RE71? I have, and can't think of any other tire that can provide the same performance.
