Hello everyone, and thank you for this great site. I will try to do my part to make sure this site stays on-line. My Question is about the intake resonator. I have read up on the articles about taking it out of the fender well. Wouldn't it be easier to do (and undo) to just remove the peice of plastic that goes from the airbox to the fender. I know the engines prefer the colder outside air, but would it really make a noticable difference? Thank you in advance for any info. I have a '97 contour se w/ a duratec. ATX. Brad

I removed it and I think the gain isn't worth the time. To be honest, I felt no performance gain. The intake sound had a bit of a 'woosh' noise to it afterwards. Unless you've really got time to kill, don't waste your time.

I took just the piece of plastic that goes from the airbox to the fender (about3-4 inches long) right off, it only took about thirty seconds, and it sounded really nice at about 4,000 rpm's, but I put it back on because I don't know if this is good for the car. If it's not a bad thing, it should be a really nice alternative to taking the actual resonator out of the fender, because this is really fast and easy. Also it is extremely easy to put back on. confused

Yes the intake res is very hard to remove. I did it though and removed my bottom airbox and attached filter to top(it gets dirty but it helps). I definetly felt a small improvement and like the sound. I think removing the res is worth it if you have time, though I wouldn't just remove the air horn that attaches to box..all that will do is let more air in, that is made very hot by the engine, I don't think it'll help with performance. Mod your intake box...it's not that hard.

well, I definatly think I will just take the resonator out, and I will take a look and think about doing the airbox also, I was a little worried about being able to put everything back together, in case I wanted to sell it, but I don't think I could ever part with this car anyways lol!! laugh I did not notice any performance gain or loss when i took out just the air horn, but it sure does sound sweet... I'll take out the resonator tommoro. Thnx.
