replace my solid back seat with the 40/60 split rear? Or is it just to hard to even worry about it?

I don't think it would be hard (i.e. requiring welding and drilling just to get it in), but all the cables and hinges might make it an effort to actually work.

My car has the metal brackets in the trunk where the knobs go, even though I don't have the folding seats. So IMHO all you need to do is swap the seat and install the knobs/clasps.
