Are there any negative side effects in running a different ET(offset) for the front and rear wheels? Tire wear, handling etc.?
The reason Im asking is that the wheels im looking at have a ET of 35 (stock is 49.5) and these would fit finely in the rear where the stock-wheels are quite deeply inside the wheel wells but the front wheels would probably be sticking out too far (the wheels aren't allowed to stick outside the bodywork over here). The shop then told me about something that they could do to the wheel (don't know the correct term for it), basically they carve off 3mm's from the wheel so the offset becomes 38 and it would tuck in fine under the wheel well.
Also, I don't know how similar the wheel wells are for the Contour/Mondeo but how would this affect a possible lowering of the car in the future?

Thanks for any info you might have!
