Are you talking dry roads, wet or snow.

Dry roads, and the track.

KDW z rated tires have a 400 tread wear and the FZ4 have a 300 which means there rubber is softer and will grip the road better on dry roads. I tried driving on some light snow with my kdw and they sucked. And all the rating are the same except for the tread wear. With the goodrich all you paying for is the brand name and all the over head from the stores that carry them.

Bull****. A lower treadwear does not mean a softer tire AND less grip. The KDW has a treadwear rating higher than my Yok AVS-i, and more grip.

Come to think of it, the KDW has a treadwear of 300, not 400. The KDWS has 400 and is an all-season tire with less dry grip than the KDW. Significantly different tire. If you had expreiences with the KDWS, then I understand your POV. But the KDW is a far superior tire to the Toyos.

Now the GSC that use to come on the svt back in 98 had a far better grip the the KDW. The only reason they switch was because the gsc wore out too quick and the KDW has a bit better wet road traction.

Again, reenforces my KDWS assumptions. Goodyear hasn't made a true performance tire that competes on the street with the others. SVT switched to BFG for the Contour because the GSC's rode like a rock and had little grip.

With todays compounds and rubbers you could pick almost any zrated tire and have it perform as well as any other. Both the fz4 and kdw along with almost all the other name brand zrated tires ahve a AA rating in traction and a A rating in Temp. The treadwear is the only thing that is different in most of these tires. I dont run fz4 on my tour i run the t1-s and they would smoke the kdw.

Another mistake. Just because two tires have the same UTQG rating, does not mean they will perform the same, on dry, wet, snow, wherever. Differences in compound and tread pattern make such a huge difference. Not all Z rated tires perform the same. Check out www.tirerack.com for the tire tests or this link for the KDW.

If you are happy with your tires, good. But I doubt they are better than the KDW in anything except noise on conctrete roads. Snow? The KDW is not designed for it so who cares? I didn't drive on them in the snow. If you need an all-season tire, there are other options, like the KDWS.

You cannot tell a difference, but maybe I can. Don't make theose assumptions for me.

A good tire will change the handling characteristics of a car. Remember, it's the only thing actually touching the road. You'd be surprised how well a good tire on a crappy car can make it fun. And at the track, KDW equipped Contours are eating Cobras for lunch in the turns.

Really all in all the only point i was trying to make is I think the kdw are pretty bad in the snow. I had to drive once in the snow with them and it wasnt a fun deal.

You own fault. The KDW is not an all season tire. You should have known that before attempting to drive in the snow. I've done it just to try, but I park my SVT when it snows because I do not want to sacrifice the dry grip.

If i can take a corner doing 60 and go over 120 on the highway my tires are pretty much doing what I expect from them. V rated are for up to 149mph and z rated over 186mph the svt cant do either of those.

Maybe that's not good enough for me. I have higher requirements, I guess. I want to be able to go 65mph around that same turn. Like you said. Different people want difference things. It's good to hear there are more options for us.

I use to live in connecticut so the snow was no big deal I would buy cars and 4x4 trucks that were good for those diving conditions.

I live in atlanta now that was the first time in 7 years we got any snow and it was only about 2 inches. The problem here is two inches of snow shuts down the whold damn state.

I understand. Maybe all-seasons would be better for your situation. That's for you to decide. I think that you won't be able to get the same dry grip as a dedicated summer tire. However, most people don't use that ultimate grip whic his why there are so many options for us.
