Looking to put some new tires on for summer. I can get a good discount on Pacemerk Asymetrical GT's, but know little about them.
I have looked around and cannot afford a set of "brand names" due to severe $$$$ shortage.
Was also looking at some Cooper Cobra GTs. Little more expensive than the Pacemark's, but within the budget.

I've never heard of the brand. What size are your tires, 205/60R15? I checked www.tirerack.com and found 71 tires in that size ranging in price from USD $35 to $135, the cheapest being some Goodyears. Dunlop SP5000 is the favorite all-season tire at $64. Remember that the only thng connecting you to the road are the four contact patches of rubber. If you can afford to buy the other two in the fall, I would go for two better tires now on the front.

Pacemark is Canadian Tires own brand. Bare minimum rubber quality if you ask me. You're better off going to Costco to try and save some cash on a name brand. Remember, Costco can order tires from any manufacturer they carry. They aren't limited to what's in the store.

I wouldn't slander the Canadian Tire brands, as they usually are Goodyear, Cooper or Michelin (owners of BFG and Uniroyal). The sales person usually knows who made them or The DOT code has a plant # as part of the code. I have had good sucess, particularily with snows, and touring level tires. I almost bought the unidirectional Pacemarks but was switching to 205/55/16 rims and got a better 'wheel deal' elsewhere. I am happy with Bridgestone 910, which are good enough for my driving. I usually get the first two digits in 000 miles of the treadwear indicator, so I think I am a 'medium' tire life driver.

IMHO, Tires are often overlooked but are one of the most important pieces of safety and performance equipment for your vehicle. Save your pennies and buy the best rubber you can. Even if its only two at a time. I speak from experience, you only make the mistake once.
