What are some really good tires in 205/60/15 size? I'm looking for sharp steering response, good handling, a decent ride and some snow traction. I'll use them 9 months of the year, and use something else in the winter. Price is not critical.

I have Michelin Energy MXV4 205/60/15's on my car and they work great all year. Much better grip when wet or in snow than the stock Firestones. These were not extremely cheap at $99 per tire, but they were well worth it.

I have a set of 4 Michelin X-One's 205/60R15 40K miles for sale. I used them until I got SVT wheels. They are phenomenal tires that run $125/tire new! They stick like glue and have very nice snow traction. I now have Michelin MXV4 Plus and like them a lot too, but the X-One was a better dry tire IMHO. They are guaranteed to 80K, and have 7/32" tread depth left. Let me know if you'd like to buy them, I just need to get rid of them. I'll make you a good deal!

I've gotta disagree with "4cylmys" about the Michelin Energy MX4Vs. Don't buy'em. I bought a set in '99 (at $108 a pop) and they were down to their wearbars only after 20,000 miles of semi-tame driving. They were super-quiet on the highway but didn't have a lot of grip in rain/snow. Plus, they howled like a wolf when I went around a curve too quickly.

I'm now riding on a set of H-rated Falkens and have nothing negative to say about them. Bought'em at Sears for $60 a piece, and they have a 60,000 tread warranty. (Michelins have no such warranty.)

Just my 2 cents...

I love the MXV4's squealing! Sounds cool!

EdEd-do you want to buy my tires? I'll sell em cheap. Really cheap. Let me know thecontourguy@aol.com

After much reading and pricing, I bought a set of Dunlop SP5000 Sports for Tour #1. Had D60s on both cars before. The new ones have a higher speed rating too. After about 200 miles I like them much better than the D60s. Cornering is better, smoother when pushed hard and the wheel is more responsive, tighter. Only a few bucks more per tire than the D60s. The Dunlops are one of the few that have a decent snow rating according to the tests.

The Dunlop SP5000 is the reigning champ for All-season tires. A frined of mine had Yokohama AVS intermediates on his 97 SE that were probably the best tire in that size, although summer only.

heh. I got BFG Touring T/A HR4's. They aren't what I would call "performance all season" but they are quiet, stick reasonably well in corners (I have an ATX) and wear really well. Plus they were cheap @ $50 a tire
Besides, on 15" wheels to keep stock MPH on speedo you can't really tell a diff between these and "perf" tires.
My next step is some E1 wheels and 225/50-16's or another 16" wheel of some sort....
