Personally I can't wait to get my 4 x 4 out of the shop (broken timing chain) and play, but since I am fixing it, it will be a while yet.

I use the car w/ Blizzaks when I should get to work with less than 5 inches of snow. Any more, and my job isn't worth a 3 hour commute each way. I stay home and play with the 4x4 instead and complain that I can't get the car down my street.

Sorry to hear about the engine. Is it a newer Ford Triton? I don't want to be scared about my 5.4L.

I have been very pleasantly surprised about the capability of my SVT w/ 15" snows on (the yoks) it seems it can get through anything, as long as it doesn't knock the front fascia off Seriously, I just drove an Audi Quattro (A6 avant w/ the 2.8) last night, and I must say, my 'tour handled the snow far better and more predictably (even if you include the 4k tranny drops I did in the audi )

It's all about balance.

MHellman, I didn't buy mine new, I got it for a steal from a kid north of Kansas City a couple months ago. You have an SVT? What color, I may have seen it around. I am glad there are more Iowa guys in here, Brad Noon is in W. DSM. APT- if I had a 3 hour commute I wouldn't even think of driving the tour in this much snow. I only have 30 minutes in the worst of conditions. As far as the truck goes, it is an 87 toyota with 200K on the odometer, so a timing chain isn't too bad.

I got a deal on the house and there isn't a really good city in between my work and my wife's company anyway. So 45-50 minutes in the morning and 50-60 in the evening on dry days. It's not too bad, except when there is construction, rain or snow. Oh wait, that accounts for all the time .

Have a merry Christmas and drive safely.

APT- I know what you mean. My parents live in rural Iowa and commute 45-60 minutes each way almost every day. I just don't like that much drive time just to get to work. On the other hand, I'm a sucker for road trips, especially with the new 'Tour'!

I wish I had a 40-50 minute rural commute. Unfortunately, mine is 36 miles and goes from a northern Detroit suburb, through downtown and then out west to another suburb. A Hundreds or thousands of cars in my way every day, hogging the left lane at a whopping 60mph.

BTW, today was the first day in over 2 weeks that I could drive the SVT (no snow tires). Boy I miss it. I couldn't resist passing a left lane hugger and then keep accelerating to 110mph. Too easy.

Yup that sure would suck for a commute. I know what you mean about not being able to resist flying by people when the roads are clear. I have the same problem as soon as I see dry pavement!

I have a set of Yokahama 600's on my SVT, P225-50-16's, thats all they had in stock for size. These tires are great in the snow and in MI thats very important! Originally they ordered the 15" steel wheels w/ P205-60-15's but the wheels didn't fit, so we went with the alternative. The 15" tires were of the Yokahama variety but in the 720 series. I recommend the Yokahama 600 personally, for $500 including mounting, balancing and road hazard its well worth it to me, Just my .02 cents.

I'am a little confused, maybe someone can help.I've been reading some of the post here and have read the recommendations from tirerack. When I spoke to them about snow tyres, they didn't recommend 15 inch size, they recommended 205/55-16 either using the Blizzak LM-022 or the Mich Pilot Alpin.Getting a speed rated snow was my idea, but the size wasn't.Was I steered wrong?I have the Michelin tyres on now, they seem like a great tyre, does anybody else have them? What do you think of them?
