Well, I just put on my new winter tires and wheels. I got Pirelli Winter Ice Direzionale, on 15" black steel wheels. Looks pretty godly, but the tires should work out nicely in the ice and snow. I'll probably get some wheel covers from a Tour GL.

I have chrome rims and I know that its pretty bad to leave them over winter, but is there any spay that i can apply to keep it from the salt. If i leave it on for one winter what will happen to them.

Save yourself time and in the long run ,money and find a cheap set of wheels at a salvage yard for the winter. NOTHING is goin to save those chrome wheels from road salt for long.Minnesota winters are ugly and the salt eats up chrome over time

Within 2 weeks of picking up my '99 SVT I bought a set of Arctic Alpines on a set of 15" Oz Mondeo alum rims that look much like the orig rims--they fit over the front discs: 205/60/15's. Within two weeks of that I'm driving ice covered roads near Georgian Bay (live in Toronto but drive into Great Lakes area every couple of weeks) with mucho stick. Did the parking lot test--couldn't do a 360--the tires are sticky. Like you Mich guys, we get very changable weather from ice to deep snow once you get out of the Toronto area. These tires over 2 winters have kept the SVT a fun, safe winter ride. Blizzaks buy the way lose their ice compound after about 50% wear and then they become a M+S rated tire--something to consider when making a 4 tire investment. Check the winter tire test at Tiremag.com and the Alpine still outperforms a lot of other compounds. Even though it is Q rated, dry handling is very good. As an experiment with the G-forces: try turning at speed in a snow covered parking lot

'99 Tropic Green #401

Has anybody ever used the Yokahama Guardex 600? The seem to be pretty good and Tirerack has them for pretty cheap. I can get a set mounted in 15" steels, w/ covers and Fedex 2-day for like $488

If I hadn't got such a deal on my Blizzak's,(see earlier post) I would have bought the Yokamama's. I do work for Yokahama through their ad agency here in town. The main guy there is a Porsche racer and the biggest car enthusiast a have ever known. He raves about them and his opinion is good enough for me. BTW, how was the wedding?

I may go ahead and order the Yok's unless I can find a good deal here in town.
BTW, the wedding was awesome! if my lazy butt every gets around to doing a website, I will get some shots up on there.

Hey Rara congrats on getting hitched. I hope we'll still be able to see you at meets. lol Anyhow, I'm not planning on getting winter tires for a few dumb reasons, but I will tell you that the "hand-brake turn" is something you must learn in the snow. It has saved my ass from bouncing off curbs more than once.....plus, it's fun as hell.
