Well, after a little research on Alex Peper's
web page I think I have a bad answer for you. There is no easy way to ensure your cable is working as the 9pin connector section of the cable has a module inside it that converts the PWM communications into UART.
In laymen's terms, there are no straight through wires and you can't check for continuity from the vehicle connector to the 9pin connector. If you still want to make sure the wires are working, you'll need to break the cable apart to test.
Here are the needed pins on the vehicle connector:
2, 5, 10. If any of those are broken, you're SOL.
