OBD-II is a specification. It stands for OnBoard Diagnostics and is standard on U.S. vehicles from 1996 onward (and some pre-1996 cars). It is the second version of the spec, w/ OBD-I being the first, and OBD-III coming eventually.

If you have a specific product that you are having a problem with, then I would try to contact the manufacturer of that product. They will know the product better than anyone.

You can try to post a reply here with all of the pertinent info (product name, version #, O/S, etc.), but I am not sure if anyone will be able to help. I guess it won't hurt to try.

Hope this helps.

Well, after a little research on Alex Peper's web page I think I have a bad answer for you. There is no easy way to ensure your cable is working as the 9pin connector section of the cable has a module inside it that converts the PWM communications into UART.

In laymen's terms, there are no straight through wires and you can't check for continuity from the vehicle connector to the 9pin connector. If you still want to make sure the wires are working, you'll need to break the cable apart to test.

Here are the needed pins on the vehicle connector:
2, 5, 10. If any of those are broken, you're SOL.

Hope that helps!
