The information I have is current as of about 2wks ago...so hopefully it is still useful. Also, I don't have the details on the cars that I usually get...I've been covered up at work, so I haven't had the time to look at them closer - which is what I usally do.
Give a call to
Ray Varner at Dean Stallings Ford in Oak Ridge (483-4352). He told me about an E1 they have (a 99, I think he said) that is supposed to be in good shape w/ fairly low miles. As a side issue, many people think Ray is the best Ford salesman in these parts, and while I haven't meet all the salesmen, I'll agree with that statement for now. One nice thing about Ray is that you can tell him what you're looking for and he'll try and work w/ you (he kept an eye open for me for SHO's/SVT's).
You can get help with the other Oak Ridge SVT with
Mark Troutt at Rusty Wallace Honda (482-4404). Mark is a finance guy, but I really enjoyed working w/ him when I bought my 94 Cobra. If Mark can't help you, I feel pretty confident that he'll put you on the right track. I did look at this SVT - but only very quickly. I think it was a silver E0.
The last SVT I talked about in my post is down at Jerry Duncan Ford in Roane County. I did take a pretty good look at this one...and wasn't all that pleased with it (in fact, I asked Rara a few questions about it). It is a red 99 w/ just under 36,000mi. And I mean JUST under...if I bought it, I would have extended the factory warranty and it made me wonder if the next test drive would take it over the 36,000mi mark. It has throttle hang (thanks, Rara) pretty bad. It rattles and squeeks a good bit and doesn't ride as smooth as you'd expect. The sunroof made some funky noises. Also, it has a few good sized chips/scratches...nothing bad, but more than you'd expect for the car. They tell me the car was purchased from them new. They also tell me the reason the woman traded it in was because she needed an automatic (got a Taurus) for her daughter to drive. They were asking $18,900 for it...much too much IMHO. It has sat on the lot for many, many months...although it may be gone by now. And, hopefully they sent it back to their mechanics for a little "fix up" because it sat there so long.
Before I got the car I have now, I looked seriously (by "seriously" I mean would have bought a good SVT that day) for an SVT for about 6mths (thank again to Rara for all the advice), but it didn't work out.
Remember the "leftover" 00 SVT that made it to eBay for $16,000 up in the Tri-Cities (Friendly Ford, I think they're called)? I was very hopeful for that one and spoke w/ Scott up there quite a bit, but it didn't work out. At the time, I had my 99 Cobra and they just wouldn't give me anything for it in trade.
Hope this helps. Let me know how you make out.
(For the record, let me state I have nothing to gain by recommending the people listed above - I don't get any "finder's fee" nor would I accept one. I truely believe that people that do "good business" should get the customers and those that do "bad business" shouldn't.)
