Why did you have to get four new tires? I thought at least a couple of them were in decent shape.
As for the 'sensor'...its doubtful your tire had anything to do with your fuel guage dying. In that system there is the guage, a sender on the tank, and the leveler(floater) inside the tank. There are a number of things that could fail and screw up the reading...including the guage itself. Fill up the tank and see if it helps, to check the floater inside the tank. I'd say to drive hard to see if the floater is maybe stuck but I know you'll be doing that anyway.
