I've been kicking around the idea of running an Auto-X or two this summer, after school is out. I was trying to determine what class I would be in. I think I would be in Street Mod but I'm not sure.

The big mods of note are: 2001 Taurus Duratec 3L block, Quaife LSD. I have a complete list of mods in my profile (clicky in sig).

If I wasn't in Street Mod, what would I be in?

I don't really care if I am competitive; I just want to have some fun.

I was wondering when this post would pop up. wink

I thought we had figured it out the other night but I still think you would be in street mod because of the LSD.

Probably Street Mod due to the 3 liter. Note in the long post in this section, Buckshot talked about running his 3 liter in Street mod against MFE in KC. LSD also eliminates you from stock, and I think the engine keeps you from STX.

Street Mod is better than running full out Modified Class, though, where you can barely recognize many of the cars from their original beginnings!

I run in Street Mod.

I seem to remember the STX rules allowing a small overbore, however - since that's all the block swap is, it might be theoretically legal, but like you said, I'm just in it for the fun.

Car Classification Rules

Seems to confirm the Street Mod classing. Your LSD is allowed in STX, but your 3 Liter is not. It is specifically allowed in SM, however, as long as it is from the same manufacturer (Ford to Ford, but not Jag to Ford, or Volvo to Ford. Chevy to Ford is right out.)

I was also thinking about Street Prepared, but that would work only if the allowed overbore (.0472 in. over standard) put you at the actual displacement of the 3.0. And then, you might be pushing it.

If you just want to have fun, I'd say SM for sure. At least around here, it's a more popular and open class, and more entrants is always better in my book.

Everything I've found points towards street mod. Now on the plus side for me, I'm also allowed to be boosted in the SM class too! I can't wait to see how the car runs once everything is back together. Heck I got 2nd in KC last weekend on street tires with the 2.5 motor and LSD being the only real mod.

Well, two things on the "overbore":

1) Wouldn't that require overboring the standard part (i.e. 98 SVT engine block) engine?
2) Even if it did, the difference between the 2.5 and the 3.0 is 20% more; certainly not within the .0472 allowable limits. eek

Street Mod in the Philly region has a few regulars (a 00 Impreza that owns the class, a 90 TSi that is a regular 2nd or 3rd), but mostly everyone else has only run one or two events in the class. Matter of fact, the 00 Camaro SS and the 99 Civic each took 4 runs before they completed a pass without going OC. STANDINGS Last Event Results

If you look close, there is a CEGer in 3rd overall in G Stock.

I'd probably do at least one run at low speed to get the course down (rather put down a 75.000 than an OC) before I tried to attack it. A least on 8/11 (when I think I am going), SM is in the final run group, so I'll be able to watch, work, and then watch again before I have to run myself.

Definitely come on out..yeah the O.C's come from what I feel is poor course inspection, that is of course not the only reason, as I had my own that run... just overcooked the slalom.
You may even be a candidate for SM2, check at registration, they may be able to help.
We(philly) have our next event this sunday..

Hmmm. Yeah, that's what I wasn't sure of, on both points.
