I've been autocrossing with NASA so far, as you don't need to be a member to race, but they are taking a long break right now so I was thinking about doing a few SCCA events. I know I need a membership, but its been my dad and myself racing the same car. So my questions are: Dose SCCA run doubles? Is it worth paying the $85 for the family membership if we will only race probably twice? Thanks for you time and yes I did look at their website and didn't find satisfactory information. TIA

Since when do you have to have a membership to run? Not in our area.

It's not for members only. You may have to pay a little more if you're not a member but you should still be able to run.

I will offer one caveat: For tax purposes and in some cases insurance purposes, all drivers must technically be members. If this is the case then the club should be setting it up so that your entry fee serves as a "temporary membership."

in the San Fransisco region it says: "SCCA Members Only (you MUST show a valid membership card) Memberships NOT avaliable on site, " and for those who do not believe me here is the site http://www.sfrscca.org/solo2/Results/2002/Championship/round10_info.html Any opinions?

PTR: It looks like the San Fran Region does this for a good reason: Due to the huge number of entrants we have been attracting to our events, it was decided last year to limit entrants to SCCA members holding membership cards or FAXed proof of membership. This means unfortunately that you can no longer show up cold and run the same day. If you show up, you can walk the course, get a ride with another competitor, and discuss the sport with participants. Most other small regions take non members.

All the regions I have run with have allowed 2 drivers for a car, as long as they are spaced out through the grid so they can change out. HTH.

At my last event there were two guys in the same car. The club made them run in different heats, and mentioned something about "cool down time." I think this means that there is a requirement that a car not be allowed to run, say, 8 times in the same heat, even with different drivers. Probably a safety precaution?
Anyway, as long as you both register, and run in different heats, well I see that all the time around here.

The SCCA rulebook requires a minimum of 5 minutes between runs. This is to allow the car/brakes/tires time to cool. I don't believe there is any safety reason for this, only to prevent an advantage to the driver who has brought his tires and brakes up to temp from having an advantage by immediatly running again. We always permit two driver cars, and each driver can even run two classes. If possible, we try and split their runs between 2 heats, but sometimes both drivers run in the same heat. In that case their runs are seperated by at least 5 minutes. Drivers are not permitted to run two classes in the same heat.
Hope this clears up your question.
