Well after a long drawn out process between Americas Tire and UPS my race tires finally arrived at the store today. I just had them mounted on my E1's and wow are they BEEFY! If you'd like I can take some pics and show the difference between 215/45/17 street tires and 225/50/16 race tires. I can't wait to go heat cycle them tonight and race on them this weekend!

What brand did you get?
I ran that same size on my E1 rims and my front tires looked horrible after 4-5 events....(i even ran very high pressures to compensate for the sides bulging out) .... Mine were Yoko Ao32R s...
I overheated one and chunked it to the wearbars!!! so i need at least two new ones! (any one have any 16" 205's?) smile

Enjoy your new tires! hopefully you will have better luck!
Unfortunately mine were a big $1000CDN mistake frown

I bought Kumho Victoracers. I just went out and heat cycled them last night. Holy shiznit I forgot how much race tires grab, it's been 2 years since I had any and the last ones were really old. There is some rubbing on the rear and a tad in the front. That is not a big deal due to the fact they are only pushed for 5 minutes or less.

When I was heat cycling them I could watch when my rear tire lifted going around in a circle. My Brake light would come on every time it came off the ground and stopped rotating. Really fun, I could have held it in the air all night long.

Rageboy:
Did you heat cycle your tires before racing on them? If not you need to do that do get the compound to set correctly.

Tirerack will heat cycle your tires for a fee. It makes it easy because then they get to rest during the shipping time. I have used the service, and had them shaved and can recommend it. I have found that shaving Kumho race tires to 4/32" and heat cycle to work the best. If I leave the tires at full depth, I lose usable grip long before the tread is gone. At 4/32" the grip and tread go at about the same time.

Yeah, I would have bought heat cycled ones, but that would have put me over budget. So I just did it myself. I think next time I will order them heat cycled though. It is a big pain in the ass to do it yourself.

Never have bought shaved tires. Maybe when I go back to nationals I'll buy a shaved set, or hoosiers. laugh

I would expect your car looked something like this.

This is a photo of me at a NeOkla autocross. October 21st 2001. I was running on BFG Comp T/A R1's at the time. I have since switched to Khumo's, only because the BFG's are no longer available.

Yeah, it probably looked a lot like that. I actually have been lifing my tire with BFG KDW's on the car. I don't have any photo proof, but I have had numerous people tell me. My friend also autox'd my car once and I saw him lift the rear wheel on the KDW's so it should happen a lot with the race tires.

R1's were nice tires. Built in negative camber. I wish Kumho would do that.
