I believe you can use race tires in GS, dunno about HS. I'd buy some nice rims for day to day, and get the lowest profile, widest 14's that would fit on your steelies. Perhaps a 205/55-14 or 205/50-14 if it would fit on the rim. I dunno the rim width.

I wonder if you can "upgrade" to 15" wheels since they are an option on the Contour. You might be able to go with that.

Perhaps someone else could comment on the rules aspect of this (Andy AKA SVTSTS) and SVTCole can tell you about doing something like this with his SVT, using a 40 series tire on the factory wheel.
