1998 V6 Sport, ATX (ugh.), Eibach springs, cold air, muffler. Will this be raceable in any classes? I live near Hallett Raceway in Oklahoma, and commute to Wichita, Ks. Is there anywhere for me to go for info? Thanks!

Yeah, you have a couple choices actually. You can race it in ESP or STS. I personally would choose STS for your car. For one I don't think our cars can be competitive in ESP, but I think they can be in STS. STS is Street Touring Street Tire. So basically you can do exhaust mods, intake mods, suspesion mods, body kits, and some other things (just to keep it simple). The big restriction is tires, you have to run on street tires. Which it sounds like you would be. If you have any other questions post them or go here and look through some of the official rules:

Don't worry about being laughed at, when you start beating people they'll take notice. :p

Hey! Hello from Wichita!

Check out The Wichita Region SCCA

Right now there's me with my 96 SE, and another guy with an SVT, running STS around here. He's good, I'm not. You'll be in good company, except I don't get to go out very much. I plan to do an event 28 Jul, and that will be my first one this year. frown

Your mods place you in STS, which is pretty fun around here. Very popular, which makes the competition more interesting. (G-stock seemed kind of dead, last year). We've got some Integras, GTIs, Hondas, Subies etc. running there, but it's always close between the SVT guy and the others. I'm still sucking exhaust, but I've really just started. (I hope to get better...)

Come on down, you won't regret it. There's really a full range of cars and drivers out there, and the attitudes are great. Lot's of people just dying to help out the newbies.

Nope not laughed at. Instead you'll probably get lots of helpful advice from everyone there. And if you get a chance have an instructor ride with you.

Definitely not laughed at AutoCrossing(SoloII) has some of the friendliest, open people you'll find. Actually up until last event I don't think I've ever heard someone get laughed at, although we all had a good chuckle when a BMW 2002 had its muffler fly off the car, the owner had a good laugh too.
...but seriously you can go to any event with the knowledge that pretty much anyone you walk up to(even those pesky import drivers wink ) will be more than helpful...

The NeOkla Region currently holds it's events in Muskogee. Should take about 1 hour from Hallet. We run at Davis Field, which is an old Air Force base. You can view our schedule at http://www.neokla-scca.org

Newbies don't get laughed at except the ones who show up proclaiming about how they're going to kick everyone's asses because they drive fast on the street and have done X,Y,and Z to their cars. THOSE people get laughed at. Openly. All the rest are just regular old beginners like all of us were once.

Not always.. usually we just smile.. look at each other and wait and see. If they keep up the attitude, then they get laughed at. But usually we just smile and doubly-check them to make sure they will run safely.

Well, I meant we laugh at them openly AFTER they step on their air hose. It's not the proclamations that are humorous, it's their incorrectness after the fact that's so funny laugh
