OK, just to reiterate what Andy is trying to say: 1) This is not NASCAR. This is a bunch of people getting together to race, enjoy their cars, and have fun. Do you cheat at a friendly golf game, just because no-one will notice? Proper classification is the responsibility of the driver. 2) Anybody can "go to nationals." All you have to be is an SCCA member, and pay the fee on time, and you, too, could go to any nationally sanctioned SCCA Solo II event. I don't think Andy meant that you'd be competing for a national title. I think he meant "national event," which would include any one of several SCCA regional and divisional events, as well as the big one at Topeka in September. 3) If you don't plan to compete in national events, you could just talk to your local chapter, explain what you are doing, and see what they say. They may let you stay in stock or STS based on your explanation, and because locally, they can be more flexible. A supercharger? Better go to Street Mod. A stock-ratio crank pulley with a different damper? Fuggedaboutit! At any rate, it's better than cheating, and getting a bad rep.

Ok Roger now that I know that you are a complete stickler for the rules..
Let's look at it this way..
How much HP does it add???
Do you HONESTLY think it will make any difference at all????????
Please.. The rules are there and they need to be respected to a point. But man.. if your just going to learn how to drive your car, enjoy it etc etc. Who the hell cares if you've got a laser guided putter or not?? I sure as hell don't.
Now the DMD is the stock replacement part so it appears to be legal. It's not like NOS or a S/C or Wilwood brakes. It's not going to make any difference.
And if you are that good a driver where it does.. well my hats off to you. Your a better driver than anyone I've met.
Yeah it SCCA is about being honest about your Mods... and I've asked everyone in my class about my Substitute CAT.. they could care less, the thing adds about 3 HP.. and I'm sorry, 3HP is just NOT going to win the AutoX.
It's about driving skill, not much else. I think you need to relax about the rules some. Sit back and enjoy the driving, and encourage others to do it, rather than sit there and go..
oh oh oh.. he's not stock.. he can't run in that class. bah..

You got me... But my point isn't that I would call someone on a DMD. I just took exception to the "no one will notice, so why not" attitude. Maybe I misread you. There is an open and honest way to approach it, which you seem to have done with your other stuff, and if nobody cares, go for it. I thought I also made that point. And no, I don't think gutting my cats is going to make me start winning all of a sudden, but I'm still not planning to do it. It's a personal thing, but yes, I am a stickler. I could argue for change at the national level, but why bother? And I guess if I wanted to, I could approach the locals about it, but like you said, it probably wouldn't make much difference in this sport anyway.

Having been through a number of protests at the Nationals, I can tell you that if it has the same Ford part number, the part will pass the protest.

Dave, As you can tell from my posts, you can put me in that category also. originally posted by RogerB: At any rate, it's better than cheating, and getting a bad rep. I always thought that if you wanted to play in somebody's sandbox, you played by their rules. It is not about whether it makes a difference, it is a matter of being legal. I agree that some of the rules make no sense, but they are the rules. originally posted by johnc I can tell you that if it has the same Ford part number, the part will pass the protest. John, I think you are right about if it were the same part number, but on the odd chance I had a good finish at Nationals, I would like a ruling from the National office on its legality in case I was protested in Stock, Street Touring or Street Prepared. Fortunately, the one time I went to Nationals, the car broke and I didn't have to worry about that part of the National experience. Respectfully, Andy Hohl
