It does not allow replacement, modification, or substitution of pulleys, cogs, gears, or belts which are part of cam, layshaft, or ignition drive or timing systems, etc. This does not permit replacement of integral pulley-dampener/ balancer assemblies. .

Sorry guys.. frown

It's a Ford factory stock 2.5L part. Only your conscience would know the fact it was not on US 2.5L's. Even then it's a reliability mod vs a performance mod.

BTW - it's not a balancer. Dual Mode Damper

I'm sure that rule was made to prohibit UDP's.

Either way I guess I'm just glad I don't have to play by someone else's rules... :p laugh

The rule was to also stop lightweight pulleys of the same ratio. The only way the DMD would be legal in stock class competition is IF Ford said the DMD was the new replacement part for the original SMD with the new part number listed as the correct one to use. Hope this helps.

My understanding is that the DMD has the SAME Ford part # as the original crankshaft pulley.

First, the DMD has the EXACT same Ford part number. Secong, it is a FORD TVD, and not aftermarket. LAst, if they looked at it would they even know it was not stock on the car?

I don't autocross, but I doubt even the best tech inspector would know to look for it and be able to identify the originally installed item vs. the DMD. And IF they wanted to squeeze in there and ID the Ford PN, they'd still see the part number originally installed on our vehicles. Unless they read these boards, or were familiar with BAT's catalogue, or compared two Duratecs side by side, there would be no way to know.

It is different than sneaking in a Quaife - this part should have no significant effect on performance as far as I can tell.

I think you would be hard pressed to find and inspector that would fault you for adding weight considering it has the same exact part number!

Just to be clear on what I said, if you were to go to Nationals and be protested for a DMD, if you could show that the DMD was the factory replacement for the SMD, and this means documentation from Ford stating the DMD was the correct replacement part in America, i.e. a TSB or something similar, than you would win the protest. If in fact, since I don't have first hand knowledge, the DMD is the same p/n as the SMD, than it might be wise for someone to get an official answer from SCCA National on its legality. You must remember that in the SCCA, we compete basically on the honor system so be honest about your modifications when you compete. At this point in time, I don't know the legality of the DMD, but since I don't have documentation to say it is legal, then it would lose at protest time. This is all my opinion so please remember that.

1st off, I doubt any of us are going to nationals this year. 2nd thing, I'd like to see the first inspector who could tell the difference.

3rd thing, I only wish I was good enough that it made a difference.
