I know this is an autox forum, but everyone else seems to be a straight-liner. Anyone doing track events in the S.E. region? I saw a guy at the last Road Atlanta event in Nov in an SVT, it's nice to not be the only 4-dr out there! laugh

Well I'll be doing the Gingerman course up at Spring Zing..

and lets see.. I'll be doing a few events with either NASA or PDA in the Northeast.

There's always a track event somewhere, don't worry your not alone.. just rare.

Like Dave said the track eventers are rare, I did about 6 track events last year and never came accross another Contour. I will be doing at least 6 events this year around the NE, Lime Rock, Watkins Glenn, Pocono, and hopefully the new Englishtown track. If you're ever coming north let me know I'll do the event with you if I can. I just did a NASA event at V.I.R. in February, that was a pretty cool track, long drive to get there though.

I'll be joining MCJT at Brainerd with the Quattro Club. I've been doing events with them for the past 3 years, they do a really nice job, check their web site for events near you.

Willow Springs big track twice and Buttonwillow CW#1 twice. Went off turn 9 at Willow Springs at 95 mph. Filled the car with dirt and got a standing ovation from the folks in the pits.

I'm planning on doing events at Road Atlanta, Carolina Motorsports Park and hopefully one at VIR in August(long course). Frank, did you do the long track at VIR or one of the splits? I've heard that well into fifth is possible on the straight after the oak tree turn. Fastest I've seen on any track is 135ish before turn 10a at Road Atlanta...quite scary before braking downhill!
I've always enjoyed people in high HP sports cars saying after a session,"I didn't know that a Contour was that quick! You passed my(insert high HP, high $ sports car here) easily!" Usually, these guys are the point-and-shoot type.
Well, it's nice to know that others are using the SVT contours as they were designed for! If anyone is coming South for any events, give me a shout! The Panoz crew at Road Atlanta is outstanding and provide about 5.5 hours of track time over a weekend!
Any preference with you guys about pads? I've found the KVR Carbon Fiber to work best on track, much better than greenstuffs anyway.

Yes we did the Long track at VIR and yes the straight after Oak tree is very long (forget exact length) and starts flat goes uphill a bit then you are braking on a slight downhill. If you loose the brakes completely you will go off into grass then back onto the course at a later point (beginning of corksrew) and then downhill in the grass again. There were HUGE skids marks showing this exact departure from the track when I was there, my instructor said it was from a previous pro-race he showed me where the car wound up it was WAY far away. I had gotten to the point I was just holding in fourth gear to avoid the possibility of overdoing it and not being able to drive the 8 hours home. smile
I was on stock pads (pretty new) and the original rotors with almost 30K, that was the first time I started to notice a little pulsation from the brakes and part of the reason I was taking it easy on them.
I have new Mintex pads (frt & rear) in the basement which will be going on with new stock rotors all around before the start of this years AutoX and Track Season.
Some people who don't know about the Contour and see me turn in decent times on the track will then start asking about HP and just like you said "oh I didn't know, pretty nice". laugh
Who is doing the event at VIR Long in August do you have a web link?

The folks doing VIR is called Car Guys. They do a pretty good job, assigning a ride-along instructor for Saturday and signing-off on Sunday. Depending on what group they put you in, the instruction varies from fair to great. I guess it's the same wherever you go. I think the link is www.carguysinc.com.
VIR weekend is Aug 23-25th.
Let me know if you're going, I'm probably going to be there! laugh
