johnc - I was merely stating my desire for one, not my intention to do it. Those that know me know I would not do this and continue to run GStock. Heck, I have been wanting to take off the door ding strips, but found that was prohibited (would lighten the car by a few ounces  ).

I do applaud competitors for policing the sport, and welcome any protests of my car. I am proud that it is legal, and that a good placing in the event is reflective of my driving skill, and not illegal mods.

To be honest, I have thought hard about doing the 3.0 swap, and Quaife (among other things), and try my hand at SMod, but those guys are really fast. I don't think I'd be all that competitive.

TLP - A Quaife is illegal in STS, it would bump you to SM.

L-train - A Quaife is a Limited Slip Differential (LSD), and allows power to be put to the ground much better that the open diff that we currently have. I don't think it is a cure for wheel hop, though I have heard it helps some. The main advantage is that you would be able to put power to the wheels while in a curve without spinning the inside front wheel.

Some of the things that really bother me about SCCA is the way they classify cars. "cars with about equal HP, less weight and a LSD" in the same class. I bought my car to enjoy it. And I like to AutoX. To me the major problem is that too many of the cars in G-Stock/F-Stock D-Stock or whatever heavily favor only 1-3 cars. Any other car being a waste of time. I'm a competitive ******* and I like to win. I try really hard and it's very demoralizing to have some punk who has never done an AutoX before come out and run almost the same time as you because he has "THE CAR" i.e. Integra Type-R.

I know that SCCA cannot overcome this and still be fair. But it does seem that they bias the classes for cars that can run identical times (and put them in different classes)

I like my car, but it can't handle quite as well as I might wish. My desire to improve it's street capabilities (and have it reflected in the AutoX) is very strong.(basically add the things ford forgot, stronger clutch/tranny/quaife.) Nothing else I'm happy with the rest. Unfortunately doing this would completely eliminate me from ever acquiring a trophy in a given class.

Any suggestions on what you guys would do? I've basically resigned myself to watching the other guy (usually a mediocre driver) walk away with a trophy.

Dave - I feel your pain. I, too, am intensely competitive. I push myself, and my car to the absolute limits, and it is very demoralizing to have 'boy racer jr.' nip you by a few tenths.

At my last event (see Stazi bar thread), I won the GS segment, but was beat by 2 TypeRs on Street Tires *sigh* It just doesn't sit right with me. I know that I am not the best driver out there, and have been humbled so many times that I have given up any pretext of being 'really good' (at least until I have had a few years under my belt), but cripes, I should be able to wail on these guys by all rights.

I mentioned earlier that it is so much harder to learn to drive better than to cheat, and, like it or not, I will learn rather than cheat, and I will get better. In the meantime, though, I will stand beside you and watch others take the trophies I feel are justifiably mine. I will go to the schools, and go to the events, and hopefully garner the knowledge to win on a good day. I guess that is all I can hope for.

I am probably going to get flamed for this...but I will say it anyway. My longing to win, to be competitive (at the very least) is so strong, and my fascination with the sport so intense, that I will likely end up selling my SVT in a year or two in favor of a more 'Autocrossable' car. The thing that kills me about it is that I LOVE this car. In the end, though, it is going to be outclassed by the Neons, 200SX SE-Rs, IS300s, and I will feel bitter, even though I know that I drove my ass off. Third place just leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Hell at least you can place, try going into a class that has 8-10 type R's showing up and you can only beat the last two or three of them. Want to talk demoralizing.... at least you get a trophy.

I've done my exhaust to be honest, not headers.. but the rest. I've kept my intake legal and everything else. The car is not competitive enough in GS and I'm not making the changes necessary to be successful in a Modified class. I also like running race rubber, it's lots more fun. I'll probably put in some Koni's and leave it at that. If some jerk wants to protest me for losing because of a damn cat, well then I'll put the right one back in. Until then, I'm just going to enjoy the sound my car makes. (unfortunately, just not as fast as it sounds)

I really do want the quaiffe, I feel that it's the only part truly lacking in the car.
