At the Divisional auto-x this weekend, I found out some interesting things. A Contour SVT w/o sunroof weighs 200 lbs. more than the Subaru Impreza RS, and has a 7" longer wheelbase than the Subaru. The torque for the 2 vehicles is about the same and the Subaru has allwheel drive w/ limited slip while the SVT has one wheel drive. Is it any wonder they are the car for STS auto-x competition.

Plus the SVT has more hp. My friend has a mildly modded 2.5 RS and he thinks my car's pretty damn nice. Having said that, I think HIS is pretty damn nice! He's a pretty good AutoXer too, he runs quiet and smooth and having AWD doesn't hurt that at all. Though he wishes he had the slight oversteer that the SVT (oddly, being FWD) exhibits in the twisties. He's been tightening up the rear end specifically for that purpose.

I thought the WRX had 227 stock whereas the SVT had 200.

The WRX does ... but the 2.5RS he was referring to only has 165hp.

I would think that even though the 2.5RS is a great car for STS and has the advantage that the SVT cant overcome, the LSD. Otherwise I would say that a well preeped SVT would be the better car. As far as the WRX well the power advantage is lost.

I would say that I feel the best car for sts WOULD BE A 328 BMW well prepped, motorsports diff and full suspension. IMHO!

In the end I am always about 6 full tics off the first place scooby a few more scoobys ahead of me as well, then there are about six or seven behind me. Hey they win by sure number!

My main competition in STS-L is going to be a Subaru Impreza RS. What could be some of these "preps" that would give my SVT the advantage?
