If the guy in the Sube was bald(ing), 50-ish, with glasses that was likely the one and only Jack Burns (owner and founder of Jack Burns Race Wheels - there's nothing like them!). Jack changes cars more often than most people change their underwear, so he was likely testing someone else's Sube in consideration of getting one himself. In the past couple of years I've seen him kick booty with the Celica mentioned in a previous post, an old Civic, and an Audi A4 1.8T. I pray that he doesn't pick up a Sube and run in G Stock this year (please, please run in STS!), because he runs the full season in NWOR (Northwest Ohio Region)and I just can't bear another second place finish! If you hung with Jack, you done REAL good. He can get into anything and do well. Our season starts the 24th in Fostoria OH. I'll let you know if he lurks with something.

That's the guy. SUPER nice guy. We gridded right next to each other and talked quite a bit. If you bump into him, tell him the guy from Kentucky with the black SVT said hey.
The Sube was his. From what he told me, he will be running STS. Said he's tired of buying race tires. His number (242) might have thrown Cole. He had a 42 made up but our defending region champ runs 42. Jack added the 2.
GS8, you from the Fostoria area? I'm originally from Tiffin. Small world I guess. Might have to plan my next trip home around you guys schedule.

rrxp...Yep, Jack's a great guy. I'm really thrilled to hear he's going STS! I'm actually from Maumee, so you know the area, but our first race is next Sunday (4/22) in Fostoria (at the Honeywell plant, f/k/a the Allied Signal plant). I'll tell Jack you said yo!
Later, GS8 (Mike)

Any of you guys run against the type r's driven really well? I had a pro drive my car and could only beat me by about .76 seconds. The fastest type R beat me by about 3.5 seconds.. Of course they are all on street slicks.. and I'm on my KDW's. Still anyone have any luck?

I experienced the wrath of the Type R last year and made a quick exit to STS. My results were very similar to yours. Ran one event in GS against a well driven Type R that was on R-compound rubber (I was on the KDWs). Lost by about 4 seconds. The Type R is just an all around superior car to the SVT IMO.

Hey, Chris (rrxp689)... I spoke with Jack Burns on Sunday. He was very complimentary of your driving in Kentucky -- to quote: "he did a real nice job handling that course." We had 91 cars in Fostoria (OH) and Jack had the fastest PAXed time overall (yours truly was 5th in the PAX, but got the GS win over an Eclipse GSX, a Probe GT, Contour SE, and a BMW 525i). He drove STS and nipped a couple of long-time National event drivers (John Fessler - Integra RS and Paul Wines - Probe GT). There was a guy there with a new WRX who finished 11th out of 12 in STS. Anyway (here's the part that COULD be interesting to everyone), Jack the Sube pilot indicated that the WRX was NOT the hot setup for AutoX because of the massive turbo lag. As he said..."bog, bog, bog - BANG! is NOT how to move around a Solo course smoothly." Progressive power is where it's at - the SVT is good for that. He recommended that I stay in GS because all of the tuners are moving to DS next year, leaving the SVT as the class of the class. So...improve your driving this year (get consistent, etc.) and win big next year, eh? ------------------ 98.5 E1 Black/Blue a few sneaky mods

Jack said the same things about the Sube down here. Makes sense I guess. Sounds like you did pretty well yourself. What have you done to the car? Tires/Shocks? I'm debating spending some money on the my SVT. Have an ITS car that I'm trying to build, but am having a ton-o-fun autoxing the Contour and do see some potential.

Hmmmm...the best thing I did was learn how to use my right foot as an infinitely variable switch instead of a binary one. But, all I've really done is to slap in the K&N, Mobil 1, and change the trans fluid to the cocktail. Oh, yeah, I've got four year old BFG R1s (225/50-16 - TIGHT fit in the rear) that I had set at 35F/31R for my best run, plus a racing harness with Momo pads to keep me strapped in tight. Run with about 1/4 tank of Sunoco 94.5 and I'm prepped. The Eclipse GSX runs race tires, too, but has BFG G-forces. It could be the Age & Treachery Racing "Voodoo" shift knob, too? We old guys need that kind of help. Mike ------------------ 98.5 E1 Black/Blue a few sneaky mods
