Strut tower bars put you in Street Prepared unless they are triangulated. Then you got to Prepared.

Go buy the rule book: http://www.scca.org.

Always remember the overriding rule in SOlo2 - If the rule book does not specifically say you can do something, you can't.

In the Stock category you can change rims as long as they are the same diameter and width as stock and their offset is within 1/2" of stock.

You can run any tire your want that fits on those rims as long as the tire does not stick out of the wheel wells (looking down from above the vehicle).

You can run any shock as long as it attaches the same as stock and is no more than double adjustable.

You can run any front anti-roll bar as long as it attaches the same as stock and uses bushings of the same type and material as stock.

You can run any air filter element as long as it fits in the stock air box.

You can run any steering wheel as long as its differs from the stock diameter no more than 1".

You can put in any roll bar or roll cage that complies with the SCCA GCR.

I think that's the limit of the changes allowed, but again, buy the rule book.

Thanks a lot John !! You answered my question exactly . I will go buy the book anyway . I wasn't sure how/where to get it . I figured they'd bump me for something like that , or else why would they call it STOCK .
Thanks again !

If you are considering a strut tower brace, you are most likely considering other mods that are not allowed in the stock class. You may want to consider making the same choice I did and run in STS (Street Touring Street Tire) class. It allows different wheels, strut tower braces, Lowering springs, struts, brake pads, ground effects..... and the list goes on. The stock SVT is a good competitor in this class, and the mods allowed make it even stronger. The SCCA book will also detail what mods are allowed in the STS class.

Go for the STS class. I just ran my first autox ever over the weekend in my 96 SE. I had a blast and it looks like i'm going to be pretty competitive. The only mods i've done are the KKM(That boots me out of GS) and removed the resonator. I was less than a second off of the slightly-seasoned drives of a new Celica GTS and Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS. IT was a blast. and i've heard that you only get better with more seat time... maybe i'll be able to start bringing home trophies for all the 'tours out there in the near future!

I autocross my 96 gl mtx 2.0 liter here in the big sky region 38 in montana. I have been the sts points champion 2 years in a row now! I have a kkm, front and rear strut braces, bigger exhaust pipe, 4 point harness's, h&r springs, and a titanium shift knob thats good for at least 3 h.p.! Nothing pisses off the import kid's than coming to the race, and getting spanked by what they call "the 4 door family truckster!"

Feel free to check out our webpage....scca.org, then region websites, then Big Sky Region.....enjoy!

1996 GL Zetec MTX
H & R springs

Strut braces both front and rear
