Yes they are but they are not the best vehicle for autox. Also realize that in the hands of an experienced driver you got your clock cleaned by a Neon... ;-)
Autox is 80% driver, 20% car.
While I was competing in ES with my Infinty G20 (140 hp and 2,700 lbs) I regularly beat novices in Porsche 911s, C4 Corvettes, etc. and I was regularly beaten by a seasoned verteran driving a Hyundai in HS.
