I have the same concerns about running the engine hard during the break-in period. I will have almost 1000 miles on it by the time I drive the 150 miles to the event. I have read a bit about the 2.5l motor breifly loosing pressure during autocrossing and causing engine problems, giving me even more reason to wait until I have more time on the engine.
Since it is also supposed to be raining, I think I will go, and volunteer to do course work, and get a better idea of what is going on. There is another race the following weekend, and I have plenty of miles by then!
