Here is the deal...I talked with a guy about getting a carbon fiber hood made for our cars. It can be done but there are a few catches as usual.
whats good is that we don't need and certian number of people to pre-ordered.

First...then need a hood to make the mold from.
There company is in Miami so maybe there is someone on here that is in that area that could let them borrow their hood, unless someone has a spare hood that could be mailed to them.
Second...they need $800 to make the mold.
I figure if we get enough people that wnat it we could split the cost.
after that the hoods will be in the range of $399-$499 a piece....exact price will be determined after the mold is made.

I know some people want scoops, vents etc.. but right now this is just based on an OEM style replacement.

From what i understand, this can be done for any car, so if the pre-98 people want to get a hood they can do this too.

if anyone is interested in me getting this ball rolling or want to get it started themselves let me know.
I would do this myself, but i don't have a extra hood or a spare $800 to get this started

i just talked with the guy today
how does $300 sound???

well he said that he talked with the company and can push them out to me at $300 a piece.

so the deal is this...

First...we have to get him a hood...and it will not be given back...so either a wholesale hood or one from a junkyard.
Second..we have to pay the initial $800 to get the mold made.

after that he needs me to get him a count of the number of hoods we want and for me to get him all the $ for them $300 a piece
he will ship them all to me and then i will either ship them you our you can pick them up from me in Pittsburgh..whatever is easier.

I know some people don't like having to go through someone else to get it, but he said its easier to deal with one person and to get this low cost that its easier to do one pallet size order..and 1 bulk shipment
so what i'll do is i'll pay for the bulk shipment myself, then find out how much it cost to ship one hood..then you guys just pay me to ship your hood, this way you don't have to chip in on the bulk shipping cost.

this is a GREAT DEAL so hopefully we can get a hood and all chip in on the molding cost and get this going soon!!

Well looking at this and I got some questions. First how many ply carbon fiber is it? what are they using for filler? how much will it weigh? is there any framing inside? $300 is a great price as long as what people are getting is good. $300 doesnt seem like enough to get any special amount of carbon fiber on it though. let us know.

here is what he told me.

1 yr warrenty (must not remove the R1 sticker under the hood for this warrenty to be good)
he said the weight is great..the ones they have available now for civics, accords, impreza, lexus IS, etc...range from 5-15lbs

he said there are 2 kinds of carbon fiber that are most popular...small square and large square (large thread & small thread)..they use the large square/thread so it gives that nice grey..fade to black look

full carbon fiber top with 8 coats of polyurothanewhich is wet sanded and polished...very glossy finish. fiberglass reinforcements

they have smooth seamed edges...

there is a frame...but the center support has to be put on after you put the hood on the car.
He told me that it takes like 2 weeks for the polyurathane to cure so if they put the supports on right after they finish making it it might warp as it cures.
once you recive it in the mail it will have cured already..then you attach it to your car make sure the fit is good...then attach the center support

it will also work with factory latch so hood pins are not needed.

i'm going to see what the cost of a junkyard hood would be...and i also email bill jenkins about a wholesale hood.

we need at least 5 people to get this made, but the more people we get the less we have to pay for the molding fee $800....10 people $80 each then $300 for the hood....not to bad!!!

10 people $380

this does not include the cost of the donor hood
hopefully we can get that cheap
