Just FYI - not worth starting a new thread over, but worth mentioning:

I just heard back - the Jaguar X-type 2.5 duratec damper is pretty much identical to current press fit low cost cougar and contour pulleys. Funny - had to be shipped from England, but was mfg'd in Canada. Seems the "powers that be" not only decided not to release the DMD as an upgraded service part for existing duratecs, they decided not to use it on current production Jaguars either.

If anyone has a part number you could probably use Ford Mexico as a NAFTA source of current mondeo dampers, with lower shipping costs to boot, (unless they decided they didn't want/need to use them either.......)

All:

I have to say is I can't believe people would undermine an automitve engineer when it comes to stuff like this. Hell, Terry was employed and Brian is employed by FMC (spinoffs included). I have to say, I trust their judgement for my Contour related problems. Hell, I was the *first* one to buy Brian's DMD from Aussie. I just took my time in installing it. I paid the full $$$ because I knew it was worth it.

I also remember when Terry first unveiled the BullDog-Box and there were alot of people who wanted it. When the price was stated, holy crap, no one wanted anything to do with it. I have to say, I was the *first* CEGer to get TH to make/install it for me. I saved up and what happened? People slammed me for spending too much of my hard-earned money. I got lots of stupid PM's asking why I would do such a thing, why I didn't do it myself. I'll tell you why, I am a computer geek. I know computers and fix/break/hack and do some other really fun stuff with computers. In other words, I am a SA for largeish corporation in NYC. I know what my limitations are and I know what I want to do. When I can't accomplish a task, I ask for help. My help came in the way of HMS Inc.

HMS is a company set up to work on cars. They, TH, can do what he can do best, better than my local engine builder, who laughed at me when I said I wanted to drop a bigger motor in my SVT. 'Why spend all of the money when you can get a Honds/Mustang/Acura or some other car to do the job for less.'

Yes, I spend 6100 for my work and yes, my car is having some little problems, but I was told from the get go about the possibility of some things. I will be going back to TH again and again. Whenever I have a problem, I call TH and he is glad to help. Hell, even when he can't reach me at home, he goes out of his way to email work/home and call me at work and home. I know he genuinly cares about the car and CEGers, but not when there is so much smack floating around out here, for no reason. I had hoped to go back to HMS to get a 3l built, the *right way*, but, I guess I cannot. How sad for us as a community.

If you can get parts cheaper, do it. But don't expect HMS to be around to field you service calls. I bought from him for the service. Simple as that!

Flame away and lower my 5-stars, I don't give a $h!t. I am just so pissed that our Aftermarket, if it ever really exisited is gone!

Edit: Don't waste my or other people's time flaming me here. Email/PM me... One last thing, don't expect me to open my hood at SZ, I don't want anyone to see anything that TH did. No one will steal his ideas. The pix I took don't show everything and no one, I feel, deserves to see it. Oh yeah, I am one of the original members too, just a very quiet one, so don't shout newbie.

You cheap SOB, you could have gotten one LAST WEEK that you would know is the correct part. Last I heard the DMD was for "European Mondeos". Think Ford is putting high priced extras in cars for the Mexican market? Go ahead and buy one from South of the Border. BTW, about NAFTA, when I shipped my UIM to Canada, the recipient had to pay duties that were higher than the shipping cost of the part. AFAIK, NAFTA doesn't mean that nobody pays duty on any parts crossing the border (but I could be wrong about that, I'm no NAFTA expert and I doubt you are either). Or you could send your hard earned money to some guy nobody knows over in Germany. Nobody has ever been ripped off that way in a Group Buy before. Is your $20 worth all the extra risk?

Have I mentioned that I love my DMD (supplied and installed by HMS)? It has moved to #2 on the favorite mod list, right behind the 3L block.

Shaggy, I am taking down my pics of your setup (from Webshots). I agree, no sense in leaking out what Terry did so some cheap POS can rip it off.

I agree with Shaggy and PA. When a stunt like this is pulled, people's toes get stepped on. The same goes for everything. When you buy something from Terry, you get the works. Tech support, EXPERT advise, and you are helping him keep going. You are SUPPORTING Terry by purchasing from him. Sure, "parts is parts" but when you buy directly from Ford (if you can) you might save a buck or two, but you will get ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in return as far as advice, knowledge, or even a care from Ford.

Support small businesses. And for the love of God, DON'T PISS OFF TERRY!! smile

Well - okay, I don't even want one (made that plenty clear in my previous life as ScottK) - but I see no reason not to find alternative sources for generic Ford parts. Hell, no one is stealing a TH special design - they are buying a production part for what the rest of the world pays. This Haines-worship still amazes me. He may have more knowledge about the 'tour than anyone here, but he is definetly not the number one supllier of unique 'tour parts. And BTW - aren't Terry and Brad and David Z et al ripping off Sho Shops ideas - they did make the first 3.0 transplant after all. Oh wait - Terry and Brad and David do it better for less, so GEE I GEUSS COMEPTITON FOR THE SAME PARTS IS GOOD FOR THE CONTOUR COMMUNITY

With the attitudes on this board, I'm thinking my original decision to wipe my account and leave was a good one - I think this time it'll be final.
