chris, is there any concern that our engines won't be able to handle all the extra power. u said 300hp is being conservative. assuming we do the standard upgrades...clutch, flywheel, lsd, exhaust, suspension. will the engine internals hold up over time.
...and yes, I did SEARCH first before asking.

Bottom end is the weakest link on the engine. It should handle the extra power just fine with proper oil changes, and proper amount. Once you go above the power the kit will provide you're pushing the limits of the engine. We are mainly concerned with the safety of the engine.

Chris actually the rods will be your weakest link. changing out the rods will increase the engines Durability so much more. By the way Chris how are they determining whats the power limit of the 2.5? And what is that limit and what does it suggest? thanks

Chris, Thanks for your hard work on this project. It's great to see someone expanding the performance of our cars.
I'd like to throw in my $0.02 on why I'm not getting into this buy; perhaps it will help you understand where some of us are coming from, though I may be in a tiny minority.
I look at my car as a BMW 3 Series fighter. Or a sharper, leaner, baby Lincoln LS. I don't care what the supercharged Eclipse or coffee-can exhaust Accord next to me can do. I want speed... with elegance and calm.
As such, I'm not willing to give up my stock intake and exhaust. If you sold an entry-level version of the kit, that was low-boost and, say, 260hp @ crank, I could run stock plumbing and the car would retain most of its serenity. This would also negate the absolute need for a lsd, a racing clutch, etc.; if you just show a little restraint in first gear.
A little turbo whine I could live with. On top of that, adding a louder intake, and a rumblier exhaust... sorry. I've already put a couple hundred bucks of dynamat into the car (which probably added a lot of weight too, but it's worth it to me).
Anyways, this isn't a criticism of your project. I realize I'm in the minority on this position, most people on here probably want to see the absolute highest level of psi possible.
I just thought I'd explain where I'm coming from.
Thanks....

Brian, Thanks for the input, but I'm not really seeing the point of it on this thread. I can understand not wanting to mod a car like the Contour to this degree. There is no need to explain why you're NOT getting the turbo kit. Silence and absence of deposit money will do -Chris

Reason for the post: I guess in the back of my mind, I was hoping there would be an easy way to modify the turbo to work on a stock vehicle. Not being a turbo expert I didn't think this through very carefully; after some more consideration on how turbos work, I can see that one design wouldn't fit various setups. It's not just a matter of lowering the boost like I thought at first. Best of luck.... I hope to some day get walked by a turbo SVT. And I'll be smiling and cheering him on. Brian Dors 1999 SVT
