I recently have been doing some searches to try and find someone who will make a turbo kit for our car (SVT) for a reasonable price. I have contacted several different places, one response in particular, was hopeful. The only problem is that this place is located in California, and they need my car or any SVT. However, I am in New York. Now I will include the response that I received in my email:
**
( Hi Mike,
Thanks for checking out our website & taking the time to write.
Your
interest in our Turbo Systems is appreciated.
We would be very interested in doing a Turbo system for the SVT
Contour,
but there may be a couple difficulties involved with this project. The
first
2 main considerations with most new Turbo projects are physical space
for the
Turbo, and the static Compression Ratio of the engine. The layout of
the
engine compartment & physical space available will have a large
influence on
how practical a Turbo [or supercharger] install will be, or how much
"modification" may have to be made. A Turbo could be added to any
street car
with a stock Compression Ratio, but the C.R. will affect how much boost
can
be safely added and how much power can be produced.
Perhaps more important than all of this, however, is that since we
do not
have any patterns from which to fabricate parts for this application, we
would have to have your car [or one like it] here in our shop in
Southern Cal
in order to design, measure & mock-up parts & pattern fixtures. If you
can
get a car to us, we will be glad to design the parts we need to create a
kit
for you and the other members of your club.
In very approximate numbers, the price for a finished system will
often
work out to the following general numbers. The basic system is usually
about
$2400 to $2800. To add an Intercooler will add about $500 to $700.
Blow-off
Valves, Turbo Timers, Electronic Wastegate control, etc., we consider
"Accessories" that can be added with the original kit or any time later,
and
the price for these items will vary with the brand of the device plus
some
possible extra charge for install fabrication. A Blow-off Valve, for
instance, may add $200 to $300, if purchased with the original system.
Depending on the circumstances, we are often able to offer a substantial
discount to the prototype vehicle owner for the access assistance &
inconvenience. We also have discount programs for clubs that want to
put
together a group of orders at one time, since this helps us with
production
schedules, etc.
This has been some very general background info, and may not have
answered
all your questions. Let me know if you need any further details or
clarification. If you send the URL or a link for your website, I will
check it out.)

Please feel free to contact me if anyone in the California area is interested in helping me, and being the prototype for this.

thanks

Sounds good! I think Chris H. already has one in the works though. But its good to see that they aren't just blowing us off. It seems like whenever someone trys to get a new mod going for our cars we just get blown off?

Anyways good work, and maybe someone would donate their car. wink

I would love to use my car as a guinea pig. But I need time to raise the 3+ g's. How long are they giving us? OH, and I dont have a contour, but my cougar will do just fine (same car basically). I have SVT parts on my car also. Where in Cali is this place, because I'm in N. Hollywood. Fill me in and I'll start savin up and I should have the money but late November or December for sure.

I'm a cougar owner hangin out at the cougar boards but contours are just as great.

Hey Mike,

As you might not know, I am working on getting a kit made for the Contour right now. Those things mentioned as "accessories" would be standard with the kit (except for maybe the turbo timer). In addition, the turbo we will be using will be quite a bit more technologically advanced than the turbo these people want to use, it sounds like. It's going to be a little while, but it will be worth it. Start saving now! smile

Is this proposed kit only for CSVT or can the stock dura-6 be fitted?
