I had installed a B&M short shifter a few weeks ago and love how it works, but the look of the leather boot lead something to be desired. As on the ones I'd seen on other cars it is all tucked down around the shift mechanism. I had read of someone actually having the reverse lockout cut a hole in his boot. So I decided to try and shorten the boot as much as possible to give it more the look of stock. I easily removed the boot and remove the staples that hold the two plastic rings and leather boot together. I then pushed the center ring as far up into the boot as possible, about an 1 1/2". I then cut off the excess leather and re-installed the outer ring. I used a large staple gun to install new staples through the three layers of material and bent them over by hand. I installing the shortened boot, this gave the shifter the more stock look I wanted. I wouldn't remove any more than 1 1/2" of material because it might make it too tight for the movement of the shifting linkage. I thought I would let those who might buy one know about this.
