The two black hoses that connect to the DPFE are just used to transfer exhaust gas between the EGR tube/pipe to the DPFE and back. The DPFE then measures how much exhaust is flowing in that tube/pipe. That means that you just need an air-tight hose that can transfer exhaust. A fuel hose should be air-tight, otherwise fuel vapor would escape from it.

Hopefully, others on the board will chime in and let you know about the truth of the dealer's statement.
