Hey guys. I've been lurking here for a while since my beloved '95 GL was stolen about a month and a half ago. It was my baby. At 72K miles it drove like when I took it off the lot at 27K. I was going to sink my money in another one, but didn't like the ride characteristics, shifter or floatiness of the more recent 'tours.

Luckily for me I just got a promotion and a substantial raise, so I figured to get a CSVT instead. I'm looking at a few right now. The prime one on my list is a '98 with 54K miles in black with the sunroof and factory CD. The seller wants about $9600 for it. I figure it'll be a good project car for me since it's a blank slate, with no mods, aftermarket parts or enhancements. The paint job needs to be refreshed too, so I'll be doing something with that also.

So, I just wanted to intoduce myself and let you guys know that I'll be asking all sorts of questions over the next few months. As a start though, are there any quick things I could do when I tune her up besides the water pump, like a recommendation for an air filter, plugs ( I was planning on the Patinum +4's ), wires etc. I probably wont be doing any performance enhancements till the spring, and just want to make sure it's in good running order for the winter.

Thanks..

Welcome! Another NJ member! Where in Jersey are you from? Keep us posted on the cars you're shopping for, and if you get the VIN # I'm sure someone here can run it for you.

One thing to keep note is that some people get upset when you ask questions about stuff that has been discussed many times before and can be accessed using the search feature on this board. That is located in the upper right hand corner of the page. But when you don't find the answer you're looking for through search, just ask!! I really don't care if people post topics that have been discussed before, because if you're new to a message board how do you know how much information is available through search?

You guys are fast... If anyone does want to run the car for me, the VIN is 1FAFP68G4WK246689. Can someone also check the recall status for me?

As to the question, I am from Jersey City, but work in Edison as a network monkey for an insurance brokerage.

I understand that it is bad form to ask common qustions without doing a search first and will try to be responsible when I post. I've been reading the forums for a while, so I know that a lot of the information is there.

Thanks for the response.

lots of people selling their CSVT's on here, so I'd also suggest checking the classifieds if you haven't already.
some of them are in the Northeast too, so not too much of a drive for you.

Thanks to all. I'll say one thing about my '95 GL. It was a great car to drive. Nice tight suspension, and a stylish interior for what is billed as an economy car. I can't believe ford never supported it as an Accord-killer. Even at the base level it had a lot more soul than most cars in its class and many above it.

My first long trip with it was a 920 mile drive to Nashville from Jersey. Made it in about 13 hours on about $30 of gas (about 30 gallons at the time). You couldn't even hear the motor and it hauled ass on acceleration for a 4 cylinder. Can't wait to drive the SVT.

SVT is definitely the ride to go with IMHO. I love mine. Welcome aboard and I hope you get the info you're looking for. Good luck on finding a ride. When I started looking for one it took a while before I found the perfect one so just remember to take your time.
