Close your eyes and pray? Sounds funny to me. The only thing I would be worried about is a piece of metal floating around in your trans (temporarily blocked 3rd), waiting to get shot through the case at some point. But, no way to really tell unless you break the trans open.
In the ballpark of $700 to R & R the trans (not including actually working on it or any parts).
