As DanB alluded to, the gasoline part of gasoline is practically the same.
In fact, the brand on the station, may not indicate who actually refined the fuel.
What makes the fuels different are the add packs (basically a jumbo sized gas treatment) that is added to the fuel, either at the terminal, or dumped into a stations holding tanks.
In fact, you can't really make comparisons because the EPA has mandated dozens of fuel formulations throughtout the US.
There are so many variables, including how each station maintains its tanks and pumps, that make it hard to really compare fuels by brand.

With Arco, which generally costs less, they use weird gas mixture I hear, so I'm a little reluctant to go there. If you know anything about that, please let me know. Maybe it is better for my car. Well, that's my 2 cents. You can't pump your own gas?!?!?! That's reatrded!!! I surely wouldn't want to let someone else pump my gas..... opps, hit it against your car, just a little chip, hehe.... no way!!

It's true. In Oregon you are not allowed to pump your own gas. Perhaps that has something to do with why we have some of the highest prices for gas in the nation (about 1.50/gallon for regular, a lot more in large cities). It has its perks like not having to get out the car, but I still wouldn't mind doing it myself.

The TV show 20/ 20 said that BP has the best gas around. Not sure if they're nation wide or not. I use BP all the time and have no complaints.

I got this off the of the Chevron website. Does anyone know if it is true or not?
"All the major oil companies say that their gasoline is great. Why should I buy Chevron gasoline?
When auto manufacturers design and build a new engine and emissions control system, they know they must prove to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that the car can go a long way and still operate with very low emissions. That's why all three major U.S. auto manufacturers use only Chevron gasoline with the TechronŽ additive to help their new engines pass the tough EPA 50,000 and 100,000 mile emission system durability tests. They buy and use only Chevron unleaded gasoline, even though they must purchase the Chevron unleaded gasoline in Kentucky and pay to truck it all the way to the Detroit area, because Chevron does not market gasoline anywhere near Michigan."

Why do they truck it to detroit, considering cars are made in missouri, alabama, georgia, everywhere... You know most dealers don't use chevron... so what's the point?
