A cop stopped me in a parking lot once, because he caught me speeding down the street. As i was getting out of my car, he asked me "is that your blue taurus over there", i was already in a pissy mood, so i told him "actually, its black, and its not a taurus, its a contour". I guess he liked my attitude cuz he let me off with a warning...moron....And also, the first time i ever saw an SVT was probably in 2000, as my buddy and i started pulling away in his T-bird SC, this little silver p.o.s pulled up next to him, and tore him a new one....Later I found out who it was..SVTNOS..and of course he was spraying, but i had no clue what the thing was...who wouldve known i would end up owning one...

Most people never heard of the contour. First time I was ever aware of their existance was when we bought a 97 Windstar. On back page of brochure were pictures of all ford's cars and the windstar.

I thought hmm...I did not know there was a car between the escort and taurus...looks like a nice car. Hey honey look here there is some kind of ford car called a contour...looks like it is between the escort and taurus, the way they have them lined up in these pictures...I think I'll look at those when it comes time to replace my vehicle.

Then in summer of 2000 I am looking at possibly buying a new car. Had forgotten about the contour by then (was there ever any advertising of it???). Then a friend suggests to me looking at one year old contour/mystique as a dealer in his area is selling them for $10K. Finally drove one...it was actually a new leftover 99 mystique and really liked it except for the color. I told dealer...well I can always order a 2001 in color I want...thats when I found out they were done making them.

I still remeber seeing the one comercial for the SVT Contour back in 1998. I was looking at getting a SHO Taurus (93-95) and wanted a Green and Tan. The problem was that all of them were sold with Automatics. When I was the commercial with the dogs chasing the cars, then seeing the SVT and leaving it alone. I knew I found my next car. I met my wife the summer of that year and what was she driving? A 1997 Contour. I desided to keep her dispite the fact that it's an automatic. :-)

To this day my family still can't understand why I want another Contour(The Zetec has had 3 trannies). I've told them they'd just have to drive one to understand.

I've had this happen all too often. Most blatten case was me testing a Mazda Precidia (MX3) and the sales guy telling me it had a 2.5 liter 6 in it. He wouldn't listen to me telling him otherwise so I made a deal with him. If it in fact had a 2.5 in it then I would buy the car. He became excited right up untill he found out I was right. Good thing I didn't buy it or I may never have stumbled on the Contiques! :p

He was close...just a little confused.
The MX-3 has a K-series 1.8 liter V6, which is very similar to the K-series 2.5 V6.

When I had my Contour (memories) I parked in the movie theater parking lot. I had all the badges removed and a guy asked me what year my "escort" was mad

I'm quite happy with the...

WTFWT I constantly hear about my car...

or

"That's a Ford?!"

which I reply - "Thanks man wink "

Soon it won't even have Ford emblems so I'll be all set...

I love dealerships, it's fun to screw with the salespeople who don't know what they're talking about. I only buy cars from a salesperson who KNOWS the car they are selling. (probably the reason why I bought both cars I've owned from the same salesperson)
