I'm not sure if "keep that from happening" is quite the right phrase. "Minimize it happening" might be more correct. Sometimes you wont make it stop no matter what all you do, but you should still do all you can. It is also essential to properly lubricate everything that should be lubricated, especially the caliper slide pins. These two items are frequently what seperates an "average" brake job from an "excellent" brake job. It also sometimes helps to use anti-sieze where the rotor mounts to the hub.
