Hi!
First of all, please disregard my lack of correct syntax, as english is not my native language...
I bought a '97 Mystique GS a few weeks ago, and it needed new front brakes. So yesterday I went to a friend's house (who's got a garage) to change the rotors and pads. (Sorry, no hi-tech or racing outfit, only straight EuroRotor parts)
My friend removed the old stock while I was preparing the rotors, fluids and everything else that was needed (no beer involved). The job was easy, not too much rust - looked like the original disks to me!
When I went for the road test - whoa!! At the first stop sign, the brake pedal went right to the floor, although it was ok while getting the car out of the garage... So we went back, checked everything, re-bled the system, and checked again - looked fine.. But after re-testing, the problem was stil there. Oops.. Time for a new master cylinder?
So I went home (carefully - yeah sure!) and spent some time searching teh forums here for an answer.. Bingo! The caliper spring clips problem!!
This morning I removed both wheels, and voilà: the spring clips were not installed correctly - a presumed conclusion, since I never saw them correctly installed. But as they were this morning, they weren't doing anything intelligent - the passenger-side one was ready to fall off the caliper....
The only help I had was the half-photo from the Haynes book, but I finally figured how they were supposed to be installed. Road test again, and as expected, the brakes are now perfect!
I discovered the CEG site a few days after buying my Mystique, and it proved to be an immense source of information. Thanks to you guys, I was able to fix my braking problem for free!
Time to order those stickers now I guess!
