Assuming that the dash brake light is on because the fluid is low due to worn brake pads (fluid that started out in the master cylinder resivoir is now in the calipers displacing the extended piston) you need new brake pads. Start by inspecting your brake pads (and rear shoes if so equipped).
The shimmy while braking is usually warped rotors. The rotors may be able to be machined if they are not too thin already, but you should anticipate replacing them.
Do you plan on doing this work yourself? If you do, then you should be able to get reasonable quality parts for normal driving from Pep Boys, AutoZone, Kragen, or the like. I'm slightly partual to Raybestos brake parts for normal use. Also get yourself Haynes manual for instructions. The Haynes covers brakes quite well.
