I thought the baer kit was for all four wheels, not just the front ones; am I wrong? Is there a 4 wheel kit that's any good?

besides that, you wouldnt want 13" brakes at all four corners. you would most likely go into a tail spin every time you hit the brakes. Front brakes must be larger to get optimal braking, they do most of the work. You can go bigger in the rear just not the same size as the fronts.

You could. You could, you would just need to install a proportioning valve to reduce system pressure in the rear so the car stops properly. Street rodders do it all the time so all wheels look uniform. Otherwise just a waste of money.

Yeah, that's true. My 69' Ranchero (when I need to live life 1/4 of a mile at a time) is set up that way; I guess that's what I'm used to seeing. I was also thinking about putting a line-lock on the tour as well. wink

All for looks?? Wow, at more than 1600$ a pair, you really have cash burning your hands! Just to consider installing them in the back, and then limiting them with a proportioning valve :rolleyes:

.. Oh, I take it you have no use for the parking brake? Or would you install a 2nd set of cable operated calipers on the rears just for the e-brake??

....Allright. $1600 or not, if it makes the car stop faster time after time I will do it. I try to remain in control of my car and be aware of my surroundings, but if (bad) some idiot decides to make that left turn after all or (worse) a kid jumps out from between some cars, even a little bit of extra braking power doesn't sound all that expensive, huh? :rolleyes:
For the electric line-lock it is yet another way of keeping my car from being stolen; it's kinda hard to drive off or tow a car if NONE of the wheels won't move, and if I park on a hill I have that much less to worry about. It's not like it's hard mod to perform. :rolleyes:

Agreed that the line-lock is not a hard mod to perform.

I was pointing out that whatever 13" brakes you'd have back there would not allow for an e-brake. What happens when that line lock leaks, all the fluid bleeds out and you're left yanking on the handle, only to remember that the cable's not connected to anything! eek Beside, I like sliding the back end way too much to give that up.

As far as additional stopping power is needed, like others have said, once you upgrade to a 13" 4-piston setup in the front and add nice track pads to the rears you should have all the braking you need for the weight of the car. Stop after stop, all day long, until there's no pad left... Any bigger a kit and you'll probably have to "proportion" it down so much it would exert the same force as the OEM setup... Unless you want the car to want to swap ends every time you turn in!?

Do you autocross / race the car?

Good points about the E-brake. With this in mind, I agree that 13's all around would be more than of a hazard than a reduction;

I don't race yet, now that I really do have money to burn I'm focusing on the bueaty of the car (god does it need it) then braking/suspension, then go-fast. "Power is nothing without control" I'm oddly attracted to a Mini Cooper S, so if I like it I'll setup the SVT to auto-cross and as my show-off car.

Kewl man. Like I said, take it easy on the rear brakes... There's better ways to blow $$ on your SVT, especially if it's still bone stock.

.. As far as looks are concerned, I don't even think it would look good to have the same setup front and back. You'd get stupid comments from everybody who saw the car, it would just look odd.

Have fun and don't forget to post pics! laugh
