While I like the trend of bigger wheels, from a practical daily driver standpoint, the 16 inchers and their tires will probably hold up better in the long run just because roads aren't very smooth. My neighbor didn't have his 18's for two weeks before he hit a pothole and blistered his right front sidewall. Having said that, would I throw some 19's on mine? Heck yeah! But it would be only if I was showing the car or cruising during the day when I could see every bit of the road I was about to driver over. Of course, I just threw practicality out the window!
