I've heard a few different ideas since I searched. Does the bleeder have to be open for the piston to be compressed when you're putting new pads on? Or can you just have the cap off of the master cylinder? Or... what do you all reccomend? Thanks guys! Installing EBC greenstuff and x-drilled tomorrow. Peace!

Just open the master cylinder cap. Use a C-Clamp and take your time to compress it slowly. Hell, you can even use your hands to compress it if you feel up to it.

Hear hear, just use some muscle. Even my weakass did it.
Don't try it with the rears though, you'll get nowhere. The rears you twist in.

If you have ABS, then open (crack) the bleeder on the caliper. This will prevent old, dirty fluid from being pushed through the ABS hydraulics. If you don't have ABS, then it's a don't care. When you're done with the pads it's a good idea to flush out the old brake fluid with new fluid. (Should be done every couple of years anyway.)

Even if you don't have ABS it is a good idea to open the bleeder when compressing the piston. If you compress the piston too quickly or if there is junk that gets pushed back into the master cylinder you may damage or collapse a cup and make it necessary to replace the master cylinder. It doesn't happen often but it does happen and it could have been avoided.

If you are going to replace everything all the way around, you might as well take a few more minutes and bleed and refill; the whole system. I recommend upgrading the fluid as well. There is a great how to on the same "brake forum" that this is on. PEACE and hard braking.
