I was helping a co-worker, who drives a 98 CSVT, replace the brake pads and flushed the fluid yesterday. For the life of us, we could not find the bloody ABS bleeder screw so we were only able to flush the lines at each caliper.

It looked like the lines from the master cylinder run underneath the cowl area but I gave up trying to weed through the rats nest of hoses, cables, wires mad

I peaked at my 99 CSVT Master cyliner and brake lines and noticed some subtle differences between the 2 model years.

Please enlighten me...where is the ABS bleeder screw on the contour? Thanks.

There's a seperate ABS screw? All's I've ever done is bleed the brakes right there on the caliper, nothing else to do for the ABS.

Thanks.

The 98 Explorer I own has a bleeder screw for the ABS unit so I was erroneously going by that.

There is a clutch bleeder valve right on top of the tranny! It's best to do that one when you have done all the rest.

There is a big black rubber cover on the top of the tranny and on that is a little black knob that is covering the bleeder!

Consensus around here is there's no need to bleed the ABS unit. Whatever old fluid remains in there will be cycled/mixed with the new stuff the first time the ABS kicks in. Not enough to worry about.

Gents I appreciate the responses, thanks.

Anyone notice when replacing the pads on the CVST, that the rear caliper bolts had locktite but the fronts caliper bolts did not? I almost separated my shoulder trying to get the rear caliper bolt loose.

Yes on ignore ABS system. If you did try to do the ABS and got any air in it.. You would NEVER be able to purge it. The system can be flushed as said, non-ABS only and the ABS will cycle the fluid when it gets used. I try to do my fluid at least once a year. Corroded ABS parts are VERY expensive to fix. Flushing the regular brakes is a fun task!!! and I knw my ABS will stay clean and worry free.

Good Lord, is that what it is? I just did pads all 'round and fortunately, the rear caliper will pivot up to allow replacing the shoes and "turning" the piston. Also, is that a T-45? A T-45 fits, but not that tightly. Of course, it isn't very deep.
