I have a 1997 GL. It's cool and all, but I like the look of front AND rear disc brakes showing through those aloys. Does anyone know if I can do this? I am in the dark. confused

I think www.batinc.net has a catalog that described a kit they have or are working on.

I was wondering what would happen if you were to replace the rear spindles and brakes off of a wrecked 'tour.

If I could get my drums to quit squeaking, I would be happy.

I should look again, but IIRC, a wrecked 95 SE at the salvage yard has METAL brake lines feeding the rear discs. Believe my rear drums are fed via thick rubber lines. Could be that the metal lines have a rubber sleeve to protect them, or I could be HOC.

Don't know for sure if the discs in the back have a different brake proportioning valve or not.

i would like info on this too.

i understand the only real difficulty would be setting up the e-brake to work properly. what would that involve?

my rear drums are the small 8" units and they look like crap. (all rusty on the outside).

alternatively, would it be better/cheaper to switch to the newer 9" rear drum setup?

I looked in my Ford Manuals last night and it appears that the brake line from the master cylinder runs to the same place on both rear disc and rear drum cars. Both use a flexible hose, but on drum cars, it looks like the hose is shorter and connects to the steel line that attaches to the drum.

So I think you could still do the swap, but you will need the right flexible line to attach to the rear disc caliper.

As well as the correct proportioning valves. But these are just parts, so all you need is $$$

Gosh, if it's just for looks, J.C. Whitney sells fake discs for drum brakes, "...gives your car that expensive European look for alot less money!"
